Boudoir as Therapy | Recovery, Healing, and Empowerment

I truly believe that choosing to honor and love yourself is an act of courage. Boudoir is all about celebrating your body without reservations, just as it is right now. Many of us do not love our right now bodies. We put off life experiences because we’re waiting for our bodies, emotions, beliefs, feelings to change. We believe that once we are able to change those things we will love our bodies and then our bodies will deserve to be celebrated. But here’s the thing: what if we believed our right now bodies deserve to be celebrated and lived in and loved? What if boudoir is a therapeutic tool that helps us really see our bodies for the first time? What if the experience of being photographed while we are vulnerable, brave and naked will allow us to live in our bodies in a way we haven’t experienced before?

But here’s the thing: what if we believed our right now bodies deserve to be celebrated and lived in and loved? What if boudoir is a therapeutic tool that helps us really see our bodies for the first time? What if the experience of being photographed while we are vulnerable, brave and naked will allow us to live in our bodies in a way we haven’t experienced before?

Our trauma, anxiety, and shame is stored in our bodies. Our bodies are not separate from our mind, emotions, and soul. Honoring how all of the parts of ourselves are connected helps us become integrated, whole people who feel at home in our very skin.

I want to be clear that I am not saying that a boudoir session will heal any mental disorders or forever banish low self-esteem. I am a huge advocate for everyone to pursue therapy and other routes towards support and recovery. But what I am saying is that boudoir can offer a powerful embodied experience that is profound and important, an encounter that’s different from what we experience in our daily lives.

Since I was photographed naked I have felt a shift in how I relate to my body. Before I felt detached from my body, like I was hauling it around along with me everywhere I went. Now I feel like my body is my home–a place I can take refuge. How would we change if our bodies felt like a safe refuge? How would the world change?
